NEW APPOINTMENT SYSTEM NOW IN OPERATION

From 2nd July 2018 you will no longer receive, or be able to book, a routine telephone appointment with a doctor.  The doctors here are moving to a more face-to-face approach and you will need to make an appointment to see them to discuss your medical issues. 

It would really assist us if you could give a brief reason for your call to the receptionist as they may signpost you to another professional who can better deal with your enquiry.  This may not be the doctor and could mean your enquiry can be dealt with more quickly.

We are currently reviewing how GP appointments are booked - moving away from telephone consultations to a more face-to-face approach.  

From 2nd July, we will therefore offer more advance GP appointments, which will be available to pre-book up to two weeks ahead.  These appointments are ideally suited for on-going or more complex, medical problems and can be booked with a doctor of your choice (depending on availability). 

At the end of our normal surgeries, there will also be a set number of on-the-day appointments, which will be available on-the-day for problems that cannot wait OR for those that are urgent, rather than chronic, on-going issues. This service will operate on a triage basis where patients will be asked to come in to the surgery and will be seen in order of medical need, which means you may have to wait to be seen.  The doctor will not be able to deal with more than one problem in these appointments and we will not be able to guarantee which GP you see.   

In addition, there will also be follow-up telephone review appointments available if the doctor would like to discuss a result or follow-up with you or you have been asked to make a telephone appointment by either a GP or member of our team. 

Our Reception Team play an important part in helping you see the right professional ... first time ... sometimes without needing to see a GP first.  A number of them have been trained to be able to signpost you (if appropriate) to local services in Brighton and Hove without needing to see a GP or nurse first for a referral.  This is known locally as 'Active Signposting'.  

These services include self-referral for physiotherapy, advice on minor ailments with your local pharmacist and advice on sexual health.   For further information select the 'NEW Self Referral' tab on the right-hand side or visit Brighton and Hove CCG website.

We are confident these changes will not only enhance the service we provide, but will also be a more sustainable service going forwards.  We therefore appreciate your patience and understanding during this period of change.

We will closely monitor all changes and plan to hold feedback sessions within the waiting room involving our Patient Participation Group ... please keep an eye on our website for more information and updates.

Non-medical issues

If you have a non-medical issue (e.g. letter or form for completion) please put your query in writing and leave at reception rather than booking an appointment with the doctor.  For non-NHS services there may be a charge (see 'Non NHS Services' tab on right).

Medication requests

All requests should be in writing - a GP appointment should not be made for this.

Appointments at our Branch Surgery (Deneway)

  • Doctors are at the Deneway Surgery on a rota basis
  • Practice nurse appointments are normally available Monday & Friday
  • Phlebotomy / HCA appointments on a Thursday

Cancellations

If you cannot attend an appointment for any reason please inform us as soon as possible in order for us to give the slot to someone else.
